Domain names are the text names which correspond with the
numeric IP address (Internet Protocol Address)
of a particular Web site (e.g. winstonwebworld.com is much
easier for the Visitor to remember and enter than say
64.202.163.135). Therefore, the Domain name could
be described as the internet’s equivalent of a home’s mailing
address because it provides a specific address for receipt and
transmission of communications. Domain names are derived from a
hierarchical system, with the host name being followed by a top-level
domain category, i.e. com, net, org, us, etc. |
